Boldly going where no fungi have gone before

Email notifications for comments are a go

Got the email notifications for comments up and running. Turns out that was dead easy.

I went the SMTP route.

I didn't have to set up an external SMTP service. I could have, but I decided to try it without that (I'm not expecting to get thousands of comments and therefore to be sending thousands of emails, and I've had no issues with my email being undelivered or marked as spam or anything so far) and see how I go. I think I'll be fine but if I run into any problems I'll deal with them.

Nobody is going to die if they don't get email notifications about comments, so I can always just turn the email function off again if needed.

Anyway.

It took me 10 minutes to set up and 8 of that was me finding the right info in my email hosting control panel because it's a bit buried.

Set it up, tested it, everything is working fine. So far, so good.

learning, SMTP, purecomments
